TWENTY: 20 jaar Galerie Maurits van de Laar

22 oktober t/m 20 november 2011
5 november om 15:00 jubileum publicatie

Twenty years ago Gallery Maurits van de Laar was founded (1991) and since then many exhibitions have been organized and artists represented by the gallery have developed their ouevre. To celebrate this anniversary Maurits van de Laar organizes two exhibitions and a jubilee publication.

Roel Arkesteijn of Museum Het Domein Sittard has been asked to co-curate the two exhibitions. During his days as curator of the GEM, Museum for Contemporary Art The Hague, Maurits van de Laar has cooperated several times with him; namely in the exhibitions of Urs Pfannenmüller, Marcel van Eeden and Zeger Reyers.

The first exhibition TWENTY, HOME takes place in the gallery at Herderstraat 6. Here smaller works are shown, mostly drawings by Frank Van den Broeck, Robbie Cornelissen, Karin van Dam, Marcel van Eeden, Paul van der Eerden, Tobias Gerber, Nour-Eddine Jarram and Stan Klamer. The medium drawing has been a main part of the gallery’s program throughout the years.

The other exhibition TWENTY, AWAY takes place at Quartair. In this monumental space larger, spectacular works are shown: Taiwanese, Canadian-based artist Ed Pien will build a cylinder shaped paper installation. Elmar Trenkwalder, from Austria, will show a monumental ceramic sculpture. Robbie Cornelissen shows his monumental drawing The Gym. And Christie van der Haak will cover the walls of an adjacent room with her textile designs.
